Six Nutrition Centers Serve Madison County
In addition to the Thomas W. Davidson Senior
Center on Drake Avenue, there are five nutrition centers serving seniors
throughout Madison County. These neighborhood locations make it possible
for seniors to have a hot, nutritious lunch at a center not far from
home. In addition, most of the centers offer games, crafts, and
classes. Some of them provide home-delivered meals to homebound seniors
in their community.
Below is a list of these centers, as well
as the name of each director. If you or someone you know would like to
become involved in your neighborhood nutrition center, or if you are interested
in the home-delivered meal program, contact the center closest to you.
Volunteers are always needed!

Let's meet for lunch
There is an ideal place for you to have
lunch – the Courtyard Cafe at the Senior Center on Drake Avenue. We serve
a delicious, hot meal Monday through Friday at 11:00 A.M. Come and enjoy
meeting new friends and eating good food. While there is no charge, a voluntary
donation is requested to cover meal costs. Make your reservations up to one day
in advance by signing the sign-in sheet. If you are interested in volunteering
to help serve lunch, please let us know.
If you come early on Mondays, you can play
bingo. On Thursdays, stay around after lunch and listen to the Drake Street
Regulars and the Senior Singers. Friday mornings at 9:00 A.M., you can hear the
Jammers practice. If you enjoy music, think about joining one of these groups.
And, of course, there are many other crafts, classes, and performing arts
groups that would be happy to welcome you as a participant.
If transportation is a concern, contact the
Handi-Ride office at 256-427-6857. Handi-Ride is a Huntsville bus service that
will pick you up at your home and take you to your destination, and then be
back to return you to your home. The Huntsville Shuttle also makes several
stops a day at the Senior Center. For information on their routes, call 256-427-6811
or pick up a brochure at the Senior Center Front Desk.
