HOW TO VOLUNTEER FOR MEALS ON WHEELS

 1.     Adopt-a-route

The Meal on Wheels Adopt-a-route program is an easy, yet effective way for companies, organizations, and churches to involve themselves in our local community. With as few as 4-5 people, a group can adopt a route and deliver meals one day a week. Or, 5 people could adopt 5 routes and deliver once a month.  Many participating groups feel the program improves camaraderie, by giving members the chance to work together on a project that serves the community. Please contact Jeanie Glynn, 382-0920, or jglynn@seniorview.com, for additional information.

 2.     Delivery Volunteer

Join us as a driver and meet many wonderful homebound seniors we serve in the Huntsville community. Volunteers pick up meals at the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center, Monday-Friday, between 10:45 and 11:10 a.m. They usually complete delivery by 12:00 noon. You may deliver as often as you like, however, we ask for a minimum commitment of once a month. We currently have 22 routes throughout Huntsville. It takes over 500 volunteers a month to provide this service. If you would like to learn more or to volunteer, submit a Volunteer Form, call Jeanie Glynn at 382-0920, or email at jglynn@seniorview.com.

HOW To Receive Meals

Meals on Wheels serves Huntsville seniors age 60 or over, who are unable to cook for themselves, have no one available to cook for them, and are primarily homebound. If you or someone you know is in need of our service, please contact LuAnn Simond, 382-0920, or lsimond@seniorview.com.

MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR LONELY SENIORS

Meals on Wheels Helps Elderly Live at Home Longer

Good nutrition is vital to maintaining good health.  Seniors who are unable to cook for themselves and have no one to cook for them usually have to move to a nursing facility in order to get nutritious meals.  Meals on Wheels can help them stay in their own homes longer.

Meals on Wheels is dependent on donations and fundraisers for financial support.  Every May, the Academy for Academics and Arts organizes the Empty Bowl Project to generate funds for our program.  Would you please help them make this event a success again this year?

The school receives a generous grant from Alabama Learn and Serve and the Corporation for National Service to help cover the costs of providing the delicious soup supper.  For $10 (all of which goes to Meals on Wheels), you have your choice from 4 delicious soups - all you can eat - bread, and water.  Enjoy an energetic performance by the Academy Stars and Clowns, as well as musical performances by seniors and students.   The event will be held on Monday, April 28, in the Twickenham Ballroom at the Senior Center, from 5 pm to 7 pm, and you may come and go as you wish.  What a wonderful way to have dinner out and support our elderly Meals on Wheels clients!

Please consider purchasing tickets and/or making a contribution to the Empty Bowl Project.  In addition, please spread the word among your neighbors and friends, at church, and at work.  Tickets are available in the Senior Center at Ivy’s Gifts, Gallery, & Grounds and in the lobby.  We have flyers to distribute, as well as announcements to be used in newsletters, etc. available in the Meals on Wheels office – 382-0920, or jglynn@seniorview.com.

The Meals on Wheels staff, the students of the Academy for Academics and Arts, and all Meals on Wheels clients are grateful for your support!
