                                                                                                               What is RSVP?

The retired and Senior Volunteer program serves as a clearing house, matching volunteers age 55 and over to community non-profits in need of service. The Huntsville Madison County RSVP was one of 11 original national projects founded as part of the Points of Light Foundation initiative.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program provides a way for seniors to use their life experience and skills to answer the call of neighbors in need. Volunteers can invest from a couple of hours to 40 hours per week to help fill critical needs in the community. In one year the Huntsville Madison County RSVP provided 105,491 hours of service to 95 local agencies.

How will you benefit?

As an RSVP volunteer, you'll receive:

How our Community Benefits

The Senior Center, one of the largest and best-equipped centers in the country, benefits from the experience and talents of RSVP volunteers. RSVP volunteers teach many of the Center's classes or serve in its extensive network of nutrition sites and smaller centers.

The Huntsville Police and Madison County Sheriff's Departments utilize the services of RSVP volunteers in each of its precincts. Volunteers staff the reception areas and perform many clerical duties that would otherwise be performed by Officers, taking them away from more critical police duties. RSVP volunteers staff the Sheriffs child safety program; community watches; and various other Community Safety and Homeland Security efforts.

RSVP volunteers also make afghans for nursing homes, provide food for the homeless and homebound through Meals on Wheels, Grocery Assistance and other nutrition programs. RSVP volunteers staff local events such as Panoply and the Alabama Sports Festival. No matter how big or small a need is, RSVP volunteers are working to make Huntsville and Madison County a stronger community. Getting involved, and getting things done is the key to RSVP.
