Benefits Checkup - A Service of The National Council on the Aging
BenefitsCheckUp helps to find programs for people ages 55 and over that may pay for some of their costs of prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other essential items or services.

Civic Ventures - "Civic Ventures is a national nonprofit organization that works to expand the contributions of older Americans to society, and to help transform the aging of American society into a source of individual and social renewal." Visit the site to see how communities and organizations are using the talent and energy of the senior population.

Family Caregiver Alliance - An information resource on long-term care. "Here you'll find specialized information on Alzheimer's disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, ALS and other disorders and long-term care concerns."

Medicare Web Site - The official web site for Medicare recipients.  Look for information on Medicare benefits, including new prescription drug cards.

Medline Plus - Gateway source for health and medical information offered by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. Links to other resources for reliable, timely health information.

National Council On Aging - "NCOA is a private, nonprofit association of some 3,500 organizations and individuals that includes senior centers, adult day service centers, area agencies on aging, employment services, congregate meal sites, faith congregations, health centers, and senior housing."

Senior.Com - A membership online community for seniors, with member-to-member sharing of information ranging from health to music, from travel to trivia.

Social Security Administration Online - The official site of the Social Security Administration. This site is interactive, allowing for transactions with the SSA from a personal computer (reporting lost card, estimating benefit amounts, applying for benefits, etc).

Vital Aging Network - Sponsored by the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education to provide resources for just about any issue "vital agers" (loosely defined as anyone age 55 or better) may encounter. In addition to providing resources that link people to opportunities for meaningful and productive activities, this Web site is also intended to be a forum where individuals and organizations can work collaboratively to promote self-sufficiency, community participation and quality of life for older adults.

TARCOG Area Agency on Aging - Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments As the region's Area Agency on Aging (AAA), TARCOG provides many services for the region's elderly population.  Currently there are close to 100,000 people over 60 years of age living in the region, and that number is increasing.  More than half of these residents live in areas defined as rural.
